Packing light for a long day hike
My day pack used to weigh almost eight kilos. Cutting it in half made long routes far more enjoyable.
Start by laying everything out and asking what you actually used on the last three hikes. Spare gadgets and a second jacket were the first things to go.
What stays no matter what: water, a warm layer, a map, a headlamp and a small first aid kit. Everything else has to earn its place.
